Tip
of the Page:
Often on clothing you are
trying to get gradual shading from light to dark to simulate how
and from where the light is coming from. ie... it will always appear
darker under the right leg of the curler, even though the pants
are all made from the same material.
If you are successful in
using woods that support this idea your work will look more three
dimensional and professional, in the same way that an artist, tries
to show a definite source of light in every painting.
The easiest way to achieve
this, is to lay out all your choices of wood, across the bench,
from the lightest colour like basswood through to the darkest colour
like wenge, wamara or walnut. This will make the wood selection
much easier when you are trying to gradually go from light to dark
within one project. The grading has been done for you and you can
concentrate on cutting!
