Spalted Wood:
black spider web, figured wood created by decay

Spalted Wood: This particular picture is one of spalted birch. It shows the wonderful black web lines that are created by micro-organisms as the wood decays. Each piece is different, with no 2 alike. This is a close up of the spalting... typically the spalting covers 40-60% of the board, the wood is fragile, as it is in a state of decay, so it must be handled carefully, and fractures are common.
	Spalted Birch Degree of spalting varies with each piece, but dramatic black vein patterns for small boxes. The wood is fragile, so please order other wood, or multiple pieces with it, to suport this, in transit. Birch: Spalted 1/4" x 5 1/2" x 24" (1 piece) # bir2962 Can$6.25
